Our third album! John and I started on this musical odyssey in 1999, released our first album (Finally Catching On) in 2012, our second (Tilting at Windmills) in 2015, and now, at long last, Artifactual emerges blinking into the light. 2020 has been a time of incredible hardship and stress for the human race, but we hope in our own small way to resolve it on a nicely sustained root note the way every discordant year should.

At the time we began this effort, I happened to be reading a book about the Shang dynasty in ancient China. When a nobleman wanted to divine the future, he would have his Oracles inscribe possible outcomes on a piece of bone, and then slap a white hot piece of bronze betwixt them, which would instantly cause a resounding pop as the bone cracked under the thermal stress. The outcome to which the crack most closely pointed would surely come to pass. Millions of these artifacts have been found in enormous pits, and they are serving the secondary, and entirely unintentional, purpose of revealing in remarkable detail how people lived 3,500 years ago in Henan province. I found myself pondering what scholars of the future might make of our efforts if they uncovered one of our discs in the year 5500 CE.

Now for the kudos: John would like to thank his beautiful, charming, life partner, and soulmate Lynn for her never-ending patience, support and generous spirit. He hit the lottery the day they met. Dave would like to thank his cat for not peeing on the bed in over a month.

John and Dave would like to express our heartfelt and (borderline) limitless gratitude to Chris Murphy of RHL Audio. As our musical director, producer, technician, engineer, composer and backup tambourine player, we can say with certainty that we simply couldn’t have done any of this without him. He is, in truth, the third Moment.

We feel we can say with confidence that this is our strongest effort to date. We’ve learned much along the way, forged great new friendships, and have had the privilege to collaborate with some of the finest musicians anywhere. Seriously, we’re talking world class here folks.  So please pour yourself a beverage, settle into an easy chair with some quality headphones and let these guys wash over you. If John and I manage not to ruin the experience with our caterwauling then we will consider it a victory!
